A young girl in a refugee camp WISHES FOR

A solar lamp to do her homework in the evening

Since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak in Africa, girls have struggled significantly in being able to access education. This has been caused by many factors, including increased childcare responsibilities and household chores, while their male peers were able to continue their studies from home. When they finish with their chores, girls’ struggle to do their homework because of the lack of sunlight and electricity. To allow girls’ to catch up, we distribute solar lamps to the most in need girls so that they can do their homework and study in the evening.

A person with lived experience of poor mental health WISHES FOR

training to become a peer support facilitator

£150.00

Changes Bristol is a charity that helps people in mental health distress. We offer peer support groups, telephone befriending and a walking service. We work with over 100 volunteers who help us to run all of our support networks. A donation of £150 will cover the cost to train a volunteer facilitator.

Changes Bristol support over 1,000 people with poor mental health and without volunteers, the charity would not be able to run. We actively consider people who have lived experience of low mental wellbeing, with extensive training and support throughout.

Not only does volunteering with Changes offer a spring board into a support service career path, it is also an extremely rewarding opportunity to help others.

GRANT WISH
A conflict-affected young woman in East Africa WISHES FOR

A tertiary distance learning scholarship, to complete her Master degree over 3 years.

£4550.00

Distance Learning is a potentially powerful tool for achieving our commitment to gender equity. With many suitably qualified female candidates from East Africa unable to study outside of their home region for family or cultural reasons, this means that applications and selected candidates for traditional UK based scholarship programmes continue to be overwhelmingly male dominated. This in turn risks perpetuating and further entrenching the status quo where females are marginalised in education. Opportunities for Distance Learning offer the possibility of overcoming this barrier to inclusivity.

Windle International empowers people to make lasting change in their own lives, in their communities and in wider society. We do this by creating access to quality education and training across East Africa and the Horn of Africa for refugees, communities affected by conflict, and those who have been marginalised in society. Our alumni reached positions ranging from senior Ministers to NGO leaders, development professionals, doctors, engineers and teachers amongst others. We believe that positive change is achieved, and peaceful societies are created, when the people who have been most affected by conflict are empowered to become change-makers in their communities.

Amelia Trust Farm WISHES FOR

Someone to sponsor one of our pigs for a year and help us give them the love and care they deserve.

£30.00

Every effort goes into ensuring the highest standard of welfare and care is given to each and every animal at Amelia Trust.

Our animals play an important role in the work we do with disadvantaged young people. Throughout their time with us, our young people learn the skills needed to look after the animals and gain confidence from taking responsibility for the animals. For many of our young people, the opportunity to interact with animals is completely new.

By sponsoring one of our animals, you will help us continue this work.

It costs us £154 per day to feed and care for the animals at our Farm. If you sponsor an animal, your money will be used to pay for:
  • Veterinary care to keep our animals healthy
  • Food, bedding and enrichment
  • Maintenance of our animal housing
