A wish of £40 funds a specialist counselling session to help patients and families move forward after a devastating and  life changing brain tumour diagnosis.

Cherished Gowns UK is a charity that provides the families of babies that are stillborn, miscarried or pass away shortly after birth with items of clothing that they are able to be dressed in for their funeral. We offer five sizes of Cherished Gowns, and each gown is accompanied by a hat, pair of booties, a blanket and a cloth nappy. These items are provided completely free of charge to parents, funeral directors, and we also supply every UK hospital with this service. All of the items that we provide are lovingly made by volunteers around the UK, from donated Wedding Dresses.

Educating girls leads to more peaceful and equitablSouth Sudan is facing a range of humanitarian emergencies from conflict to economic instability and severe food insecurity situation. Nearly 7.5 million people, including 54% children, are in need of humanitarian assistance. The impact of the pandemic with the closure of schools has eradicated all past gains made in the education sector. The number of girls enrolled in primary and secondary schools decreased by 84% when schools reopened after the national lockdown. Girls are exposed to social and economic challenges faced by their families leading to sexual exploitation through forced and early marriage and early-unintended pregnancy. The protective environment provided by the school, friends and teachers, has all been taken away from the girls by the closure of schools due to COVID-19 leaving the girls vulnerable.

Distance Learning is a potentially powerful tool for achieving our commitment to gender equity. With many suitably qualified female candidates from East Africa unable to study outside of their home region for family or cultural reasons, this means that applications and selected candidates for traditional UK based scholarship programmes continue to be overwhelmingly male dominated. This in turn risks perpetuating and further entrenching the status quo where females are marginalised in education. Opportunities for Distance Learning offer the possibility of overcoming this barrier to inclusivity.

Our alumni reached positions ranging from senior Ministers to NGO leaders, development professionals, doctors, engineers and teachers amongst others. We believe that positive change is achieved, and peaceful societies are created, when the people who have been most affected by conflict are empowered to become change-makers in their communities. 

Feedback from families has shown us that there is a genuine need for an affordable and beautiful teddy bear to keep either precious memories or perhaps baby ashes.

The bear is made from luxury super-soft fabrics with high quality detailing and finishes. He is hand – washable and carries the CE standard mark so is safe for all age groups.
