About Word Forest
We are an environmental and education charity based in the UK that works to combat the devastating effects of global warming and climate change by planting fast growing trees in the tropics, predominantly food bearing. To assist the communities that help us, we also support women's empowerment, build classrooms and facilitate education. We raise environmental awareness and plant trees in the UK too.

The Mothers of the Forest WISHES FOR
A fruit or nut tree for the 20 members of our women's empowerment group in Garashi, Kenya, helping them create their own cropping food forest.

Find out moreWord Forest has created a women’s empowerment group in Kenya called Mothers of The Forest to support women in small rural communities. In challenging environmental conditions, the women look after their families and work hard to find a living. They have been given little opportunity for education and many have felt socially isolated and disconnected.
They now have weekly meetings that include courses on permaculture, tree husbandry, agroforestry and income generation. They also receive lunch, water and as an innovative way to reforestation, two new tree saplings (mangoes, cashews, moringa), helping them to create their own cropping forest.
The women can then harvest the crops from the trees, sell any excess creating sustainable livelihoods, and help us by saving the seeds to grow in our nurseries for planting in the future. The trees will also provide shade, a new habitat for wildlife, absorb CO2, clean the air and combat climate change for generations to come.

Find out moreWord Forest works with unsupported schools in Coastal Province, Kenya to build safe, cool classrooms, providing educational spaces for the children and for the community too. For every classroom we build we plant 4,000 fruit and nut trees around the school compound.
The gift of the cropping food forest aims to instil a sense of responsibility in the school children, and nurture their spirit of care.
This legacy planting programme will give classroom students nutritious meals, as well as give everyone shade and protection from the weather, help reduce damage from flooding, provide safe habitats for wildlife, clean the air and combat climate change.

40 trees to help with the critical species conservation work in the Aberdares Forest, Kenya

Find out moreWord Forest works closely with partners in Kenya on the Tulinde Bongo Project, taking place in the Aberdares Forest. This amazing project covers a range of activities - reforestation, education and community engagement - to help protect and save the Mountain Bongo as well as play a part in mitigating climate change.
The Mountain Bongo is listed as critically endangered by the IUCN. Part of the planned project includes planting thousands of Kenyan Forestry Service recommended saplings within the Aberdares Forest. Reforestation of the area is essential to create the environment that they thrive on, allowing them the space to return and hopefully grow in numbers.
Your donation will help Word Forest add to the 5000 saplings they have already planted, creating increased new habitat, and provide the shade and cover needed for the species growth. Thank you.
