GRANT WISH
child with cancer WISHES FOR
AV1 robot to help me participate in class from hospital isolation
£6000.00
Find out moreChildhood cancer is a life changing diagnosis.
It affects the child diagnosed but also their siblings, parents and their friends and teachers at school. A child with cancer faces prolonged periods of time away from school in isolation and in hospital. The Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust cannot change the child’s diagnosis, but we can help to make a real difference by giving them some hope and a level of normality whilst they are fighting their illness.
Why do we need these robots?
By giving isolated children this ‘window’ to their friends and the outside world, we can help them to bridge the gap. The AV1 robot allows children in a hospital bed to interact with their classroom and their peers at the same time. Not only does this bring hope and positivity to children (and their families) affected by cancer but also to their peers who are facing the sudden disappearance of their friend. We have seen how Oscar, Lucy and Zain, who have already been given the use of our AV1 robots, have already benefitted.
How many children need help?
In the counties of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire, there are approximately 75 children diagnosed with cancer every year, with around 40 being of school age. Of these school children, more than a half will need extended periods of hospitalisation or isolation during their treatment. Our aim is to be able to support these children with our AV1 machines wherever possible. Over the first three years of the project, we aim to purchase 18 new AV1 machines and support packages for these children to use. Referrals will be made directly from cancer specialist nurse teams to ensure that the children that need them are not missed.

A Young Person WISHES FOR
Donate a Slappy box to The Boarding School
£0.00
Find out moreOur new skate school project has been really busy in it's first few weeks. It's great to be welcoming young people back into the youth centre again. We'd really like to add to the equipment we have on offer and this donation will enable us to purchase a new slappy box. What's that? well its a grind-able box for skateboarding, that allows the skaters to 'slap' or ride straight onto it, much more easy and accessible to new skaters!
It is a huge donation so our young people are putting their subs towards the box too (it's total cost is £175). The box will be dedicated in your name if you wish, or just a personalised message and create years of memories and fun in our Skate School.

BillyChip®️ WISHES FOR
Add a new outlet to the BillyChip scheme
£260.00
Find out moreYour donation will cover the costs involved in setting up a new cafe or restaurant to be part of the BillyChip®️ scheme.
BillyChip®️ Foundation registered charity 1188779 was set up in 2018 to continue the legacy of Billy Abernethy-Hope a twenty-year-old ambulance driver from Bristol who was the inspiration and idea behind the BillyChip®️. After helping support the homeless at Christmas, Billy felt disheartened at how little support the general public gave to local homeless people. Many people donate to charity on a regular basis but Billy was surprised what a small percentage of donations were given directly to people living rough on our streets. Turns out most people are apprehensive to give money directly to homeless people because it's not possible to know how a donation is spent.
Unfortunately, the common perception is the money will be used for alcohol, drugs or cigarettes. Even if a donation of food or drink is given to safeguard your donation, it is very awkward as people have to make assumptions of what the person would like and when. The alternative is to engage with that person, ask the question and purchase what’s required which many feel uncomfortable doing. Billy recognized that the likelihood of someone having the time, inclination, courage, and kindness to engage with a homeless person to buy them food or drink was too big a challenge. That was the eureka moment when he first thought up the concept of the BillyChip®️. Sadly Billy never got to launch the BillyChip as planned due to his untimely death whilst backpacking in Thailand.
