A refugee child in Kenya WISHES FOR

A solar radio for distance school learning during the COVID-19 pandemic.

£30.00

Kakuma and Dadaab refugee camps, located in an arid environment in the northern part of Kenya, are host to over 508,033 refugees and asylum seekers, from which more than the half are children. The camps are located in the north-western region of the country, which has the highest levels of poverty and lowest performance indicators relating to access to quality educational opportunities. 84% of the population in Turkana County, and 73% of the population of Garissa County, lives below the poverty line. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis in the country, schools are closing at each pick outbreak and children do not have tools to follow home-learning. With the provision of solar radio, secondary school children will be able to follow live classes all year long.

Windle International empowers people to make lasting change in their own lives, in their communities and in wider society. We do this by creating access to quality education and training across East Africa and the Horn of Africa for refugees, communities affected by conflict, and those who have been marginalised in society. Windle International Kenya manages secondary schools in Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps as the lead implementing partner of the UN refugee agency, and runs a range of quality educational programmes and scholarships aimed at improving the educational outcomes and ultimately contributing to the creation of peaceful and durable communities.

GRANT WISH
Screen 200 TB Samples WISHES FOR

Give the gift of tuberculosis (TB) detection by supporting APOPO and the HeroRATs in quickly findingthe deadly disease that kills 1.4 million people every year.

£37.00

In 2019, 10 million new people fell ill with TB, even though the disease is preventable and curable. With the emergence of COVID-19, respiratory illness and treatment are more important than ever.

APOPO’s TB-detection rats screen tens of thousands of sputum samples collected from TB clinics every year. As a result, many TB patients that initially were diagnosed as negative have been identified, started treatment and stopped the spread of the disease.
